ALAE: Who It’s For, Why It Matters, and How You Can Join Us in Creating Change

This image shows a tree trunk in a sunlit forest, with a pair of hands gently wrapped around it, giving the impression of a warm, embracing hug. The bark has a heart symbol painted on it in red, symbolizing a deep connection with nature. The quote overlaid on the image reads:

"ALAE isn’t for everyone; it’s for those ready to dive deep, align with purpose, and make meaningful, sustainable change at their own pace."

Hi. I’m Nora Murphy Johnson, founder of Inspire to Change (I2C), a woman-owned business dedicated to helping individuals and organizations lead with purpose, compassion, and alignment. With over 20 years of experience in research, evaluation, and leadership development, my journey has been guided by studies in evaluation, research methods, biology, and education. Yet, it’s been the lived experiences—those that can’t be found in textbooks—that have shaped my approach to working with people and communities. It’s from these experiences that ALAE was born: a process that bridges traditional evaluation with the deeper, transformative work that goes beyond data points to make space for real, meaningful change.

At I2C, we believe that sustainable transformation begins with well-being, joy, and collective care, values that permeate all our work. This work is guided by four foundational principles:

  • Be & Become: We honor who we are today while fully embracing who we are becoming. This principle is about transformation, where individuals and communities grow into their fullest potential.

  • Remember & Create: We draw on the wisdom of the past while actively shaping the future, holding space for reflection as we work toward a liberated world.

  • Learn & Unlearn: True transformation requires questioning our assumptions and making room for deeper growth, constantly learning and unlearning along the way.

  • Disrupt & Liberate: Authentic change demands disruption. We challenge the systems that perpetuate inequality, creating the conditions for liberation through intentional disruption.

These principles aren’t just words; they’re actionable commitments that ground us, propel us forward, and help us navigate complexity. ALAE was crafted to embody these values and bring them to changemakers like you, who are ready to engage in purposeful work and sustainable change.

So, who is ALAE for?

ALAE isn’t for every person or every situation. It’s about finding a fit—about aligning with a process that resonates with your values, your sense of purpose, and your commitment to meaningful, sustainable change. ALAE Is for:

1. People Responsible for Evaluation—Whether Seasoned or New

If you’re responsible for evaluation, ALAE is here to support you. Whether you bring years of expertise or are just stepping into the role, this approach is flexible enough to meet you where you are. ALAE invites you to reflect on the values driving your work and the impact you seek to make, offering tools to connect your goals to broader change efforts.

2. Those Working in Social Transformation

Transformation isn’t a solo journey. It unfolds through collaboration and continuous, interconnected action. ALAE draws on the metaphor of the tree—a symbol of interdependence and sustainability—to help changemakers grow from strong roots. By harmonizing personal and collective work, you’ll find ways to sustain impactful change in complex environments.

3. Those Seeking Holistic Change

At ALAE, we take a holistic approach with three focus areas: Inner Work, Outer Action, and Creative Evaluation. Inner Work is where you align with your core values, nurturing the self-awareness needed for meaningful leadership. Outer Action is where you apply this growth to transform systems and communities. Creative Evaluation is about reflecting, learning, and planting the seeds for future impact. Holistic change is an ongoing process, requiring adaptation and embodiment of core principles through every season of growth.

4. Those Who Embrace Nature as a Teacher

Nature offers ancient wisdom. The tree, ALAE’s guiding metaphor, reminds us to ground ourselves in core values, expand through learning, and assess our impact. Trees embody resilience, patience, and interdependence, qualities essential for creating lasting transformation. Through ALAE, we invite you to approach growth as trees do—rooted yet reaching, drawing on the ecosystem for strength and sustainability.

5. Those Dedicated to Environmental, Social, and Economic Sustainability

Creating sustainable impact demands more than dedication; it requires a commitment to collaboration across sectors. Just as ecosystems rely on interdependence, changemakers thrive when they build networks of care and support. ALAE guides you to embed sustainability in all areas, equipping you with the mindset and tools to align with your values and create systemic change.

6. Those Who Center Well-Being in Their Lives

Working for social change can be as demanding as it is rewarding. At ALAE, we recognize the need to balance this work with well-being and collective care. Personal responsibility for self-care is essential, but true sustainability requires support at every level—individual, organizational, sectoral, and societal. One insight from our work with changemakers is that systemic barriers often prevent people from prioritizing well-being, making it essential to address self-care collectively and create supportive structures. ALAE offers a framework to do just that.

7. Those Who Feel Called to This Work, in Spirit or Purpose

For some, the drive to make a difference is more than a career—it’s a calling, whether inspired by faith or a deep-rooted sense of purpose. ALAE is designed for those who feel compelled to engage in this work as part of a larger journey, a way of answering a personal or spiritual call to serve, grow, and make a lasting impact. We invite you to explore your purpose with us, grounding your work in alignment with your deepest values and beliefs.

8. Those Who See Love as Their Superpower

If love is at the heart of how you work and lead, ALAE is for you. We believe love is one of the greatest forces for change—binding us to each other, fueling resilience, and enabling us to dream of better futures. In ALAE, love is not just a sentiment but a superpower, an energy that drives transformation in ways logic alone cannot. This work is for those who want to channel love as a source of strength, compassion, and change.
